SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in transmission systems which combine the advantages of DFT precoding and transmission diversity coding for PUCCH transmission. In one aspect, the invention provides an improved transmission diversity coding method and apparatus for DFTS-OFDM PUCCH with minimal impact on multiplexing capacity. In one embodiment, the improved transmission diversity method and apparatus are capable of employing frequency-domain separation for payload signals.
