FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: device comprises four emitters and two linear photodetectors optically interfaced with the said emitters and consisting of a set of photodiodes or phototransistors. A special-purpose computer controls emitter switching and inputs the state of the linear photodetectors successively for each emitter. When the finger of an operator crosses optical flux generated by the said emitters, shadows appear on the surface of one or both strip radiation detectors. A special-purpose computer then converts coordinates of the formed shadows into coordinates of the finger of the operator. Also, further inclusion into the device of 4 emitters interfaced with and separate from the available strip radiation detectors enables to determine the speed with which the finger touches the touch-sensitive surface.

EFFECT: simple adjustment of a touch-sensitive panel to a required size, including with the capability to increase the size and measure the speed of touching the touch-sensitive surface.
