FIELD: power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method and installation for removal of carbon dioxide from hydrocarbon gas stream. Gas stream is cooled, expanded to an intermediate pressure and supplied to a distillation column at its top feed position. The overhead vapor stream of the distillation column is pressurized to a higher pressure and cooled to substantially condense it, thereby forming a condensed stream. The condensed stream is expanded to an intermediate pressure using it for supercooling a part of bottom liquid stream in the column, and then fed to a mid-column feed position. The supercooled part of fluid bottom product is expanded to a lower pressure and used for cooling the pressurized overhead vapor stream.
EFFECT: quantities and temperatures of feed streams to said distillation column are effective to maintain the overhead temperature of said distillation column at a temperature whereby the major portion of carbon dioxide in said bottom liquid stream is recovered.
