FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method involves conducting pre-therapeutic anti-thyroid peroxidase or microsome antibodies test in a patient. If the patient is found to have these antibodies, he/she appears to suffer a high risk of a thyroid disorder. The invention also concerns a method of treating a patient suffering immune-mediated diseases with a lymphocyte depleting agent, wherein the method involves: (1) identifying if the patient suffers the high risk of a thyroid disorder accompanying a therapy, by detecting anti-thyroid peroxidase or microsome antibodies in a biological sample taken from the patient before the therapy, with a lymphocyte depleting agent, wherein the patient is referred to a risk group of a thyroid disorder if the biological sample appears to be antibody-positive; (2) (i) administering the agent into the patient if the patient has no risk of a thyroid disorder after the therapy; (ii) administering the agent into the patient, if the patient has the risk of a thyroid disorder after the therapy, and monitoring an increase in risk of a thyroid disorder.
