FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of transmitting data in a frame of a standard video signal, which comprises encoding a video signal at the transmitter side and decoding the video signal at the receiver side. Pulses of transmitted data are included into the image area of the video signal at the transmitter side, the said pulses being received by a television signal and processed by a decoder, and the transmitted data are extracted from the pulses. When introducing pulses of transmitted data, areas of arrangement of pulses in the source television video signal are selected on portions of the video image with brightness amplitudes lying in the range from the black level to a level which does not exceed the black level by more than 5-7%, thereby masking the pulses of transmitted data on the background of the said image portions. The obtained video image distortions are adjusted by reducing the brightness level of the fill area of data pulses to the invisibility level thereof when viewing video images.

EFFECT: broader functional capabilities when transmitting data in a standard video signal via a television broadcast network.
