FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for obtaining glycolide from salt of alkali metal of monochloroacetic acid in one stage by heating up to 6 cm thick layer of reaction mass without addition of catalyst and mixing with glycolide distillation in vacuum. Distillation is realised at temperature of reaction mixture 180-270°C, glycolide steam is condensed in vacuum line at temperature 90-120°C and condensate is collected in vacuum receiver at temperature 40-50°C. As a result target product, which is re-crystallised in low-polarity solvent, for example ethylacetate, is obtained. Glycolide output constitutes to 85%, product purity is 99.5-99.9%.
EFFECT: simplification of process of increasing target product output and purity.
