FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electric contactor to be used at railroads. The invention suggests the electric contactor comprised of stator and armature designed to be moved from the first position to the second one during operations of contactor switching on and/or off and connected to the contact area coupled in its turn to at least opposite contact area in one of the above positions in order to close the circuit. The armature is connected to a pusher designed to rotate in relation to the armature and at least to push the armature during movement from the first position to the second one. The invention also relates to the method of contactor switching on/off, wherein the armature is moved by stator switching on and/or off, rotation of the pusher coupled to the armature is accelerated and thus at least part of kinetic energy from the pusher is transferred to the armature at the stage of the above operations performance, whereat the contact area connected to the armature is closed with the opposite contact area or open with it in order to ensure movement of the armature.
EFFECT: reduced mechanic tension induced by electric arc generation in contact areas of the contactor and hazard of their burning and welding.
