FIELD: heating.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a pyrolysis plant in which solid heat carrier is separated from reaction products of pyrolysis and cooled by quenching medium for improved temperature control. Quenching medium is used as either primary or secondary type heat removal, allowing a greater degree of process to adjust temperature, in particular in preheater, in which burned charcoal as a solid by-product of pyrolysis. Quenching medium is partitioned into one or more locations within a heater tank, for example, on top of and/or inside layer of dense phase fluidised solid particulate heat carrier to better control heat removal.
