FIELD: pharmaceutics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of usnic acid from dry lichens Cladonia stellaris. Method comprises performing pre-extraction mechanical-chemical treatment of material in presence of strong alkali for transfer of usnic acid into soluble in water-alcohol mixtures form of sodium usminate, then performing extraction with 50 % water-ethanol mixture; obtained extract is centrifuged; supernatant is filtered, then repeating extraction with 50 % ethanol, then obtained extracts are combined and sodium usimate back to form of usnic acid by bringing pH of medium solution to certain value, then water-ethanol mixture is distilled off, in obtained water concentrate is precipitated sediment, which is separated by centrifugation and drying precipitate in air to powdery state with practical output of usnic acid up to 93-98 % of content in initial raw material.

EFFECT: method described above enables to obtain usnic acid having pronounced antibacterial effect against gram-positive and microbacteria, including strains resistant to other types of antibiotics.
