SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine. Method of transmitting an alarm signal, comprising steps of: setting up a link between a multi-mode device for monitoring a patient and one or more access points in one or more networks, from which a patient monitoring device communicates using a hospital network which supports Internet Protocol (IP), through one or more access points using IP protocol; processing physiological data collected by said patient monitoring device for determining whether a patient's state justifies generation of an alarm signal; attempting to transmit an alarm signal using a primary line between said patient monitoring device and one or more access points; and transmitting an alarm signal using a secondary line between a patient monitor and one or more access points in response to failure of attempts at transmitting an alarm signal using a primary line. Alarm signal is transmitted through said secondary line after a predetermined number of attempts at transmitting alarm signal through said primary line without receiving an acknowledgement message. Computer-readable medium having software for controlling one or more processors for configuring and implementing said method. Patient monitor comprises: a plurality of monitoring devices, an evaluation unit and a communication unit including a first transmitter, a second transmitter and a controller.

EFFECT: use of present group of inventions allow for reliable delivery of alarm signals and power saving by patient monitoring device.
