SUBSTANCE: invention relates to apparatus (1) for powering electrical consumer (3, 4, 5) via data connection (6, 7, 8). Apparatus comprises power supply (2) for supplying power to electrical consumer via data connection, data receiving unit (9) for receiving data to be sent to electrical consumer, and controller (10) for activating supply of power to electrical consumer via data connection, if data to be sent to electrical consumer have been received and supply of power to electrical consumer is deactivated. Electrical consumer itself does therefore not need to receive power from apparatus, in order to stay alert to be able to react on data connection activity, thereby reducing power consumption.

EFFECT: reduced power consumption.
