FIELD: technological processes; metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on cutting tool and can be used in machining. Vacuum plasma sandwiched coating is applied. First, a lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then upper layer of titanium, zirconium and molybdenum nitride is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 78.5-84.0, zirconium 12.0-16.0, molybdenum 4.0-5.5. Coating plies are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First cathode consists of titanium and zirconium, second is made of titanium and opposed to first and the third one is assembled from titanium and molybdenum and located between them. Bottom ply is applied with the help of second cathode while top ply is applied by first and third cathodes.
EFFECT: result of application is higher cutting efficiency.
