FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Multilayer coating is applied. First, a lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then, an intermediate layer of titanium and zirconium nitride compound is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 76.0-82.0, zirconium 18.0-24.0. Then upper layer of titanium, zirconium and molybdenum nitride is applied at their ratio, wt. %: titanium 78.5-84.0, zirconium 12.0-16.0, molybdenum 4.0-5.5. Coating plies are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First cathode is made of titanium, the second one is titanium and zirconium and is located opposite the first one, while the third electrode is titanium and molybdenum and is located between the first two. Lower layer is applied using the first cathode, the intermediate layer is applied using the first and second cathodes, and the upper layer is using all three cathodes. Then the coating is laser radiated, the power density is 38…46 kW/cm2.
EFFECT: higher cutting efficiency.
