SUBSTANCE: hydrophilic thermally switched pressure sensitive adhesive composition, wherein adhesive is capable of reversibly coming off in an aqueous medium at a higher temperature and has optimised adhesiveness. Hydrophilic pressure sensitive adhesive consists of a hydrophilic film-forming polymer having a lower critical solution temperature (LCST), and a complementary short-chain non-covalent oligomeric crosslinker of film-forming LCST polymer. Hydrophilic polymer and oligomeric crosslinker are capable of hydrogen bonding with each other and are contained in a ratio which determines optimum key characteristics of adhesive composition such as an adhesive bond strength, cohesive strength, and hydrophilicity. Water soluble thermally switched adhesive composition can be easily converted into a form of insoluble, water-swellable adhesive hydrogel by mixing mixture of film-forming LCST polymer and non-covalent oligomeric crosslinker with an additional film-forming polymer, forming an interpolymer complex with repeating units of film-forming LCST polymer.

EFFECT: invention provides an adhesive useful in a number of practical applications, such as a biomedical adhesive for application to skin or other body surface, and as such can be used in drug delivery systems, medical coating to skin and wound care products that are easily and painlessly removed from skin surface in a warm bath.
