FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing iron-tin alloy layer on substrate of packaging steel, which requires small quantity of tin, to substrate equipped with said layer, in which one and both sides of substrate of SR or DR-black plate are covered with a layer of iron-tin alloy, which contains at least 80 wt% FeSn (50 at% of tin and 50 at% iron), and an apparatus for producing iron-tin alloy coating.

EFFECT: obtaining a substrate with improved mechanical properties with good adhesion to organic coatings and environmental safety.
