SUBSTANCE: invention relates to galvanotechnics and can be used for chrome plating of an uncoated steel strip with a cladding layer of the trivalent Cr-containing electrolyte. The method includes treating the strip at the stage of cleaning and etching before the cladding process and processing during the cladding in the cladding section, which includes a series of successive cladding cells, and at the first stage of the cladding process, an electric current is applied to the strip entering the first cladding cell, which is not sufficient for deposition of a cladding layer from a trivalent Cr-containing electrolyte, but which is sufficient to create cathodic protection of the strip in the electrolyte, and in the second stage of the cladding process a stronger current is applied to the strip to deposit a cladding layer including chromium metal, chromium carbide and chromium oxide, from a trivalent Cr electrolyte.
EFFECT: creating a steel strip with a cladding layer using a trivalent Cr-containing electrolyte with improved properties.
