FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method of inspecting state geodetic network (SGN) stations includes, for each of said stations, collecting information materials on the SGN station and on typical external features thereof, determining the location of the SGN station, identification thereof, recording images of the area of location of the SGN station and documentation of the SGN station inspection results. The invention uses Earth remote probing (ERP) materials on the previous stage of inspecting the SGN station, collection of archive ERP materials on said area, displaying an archive image of the area of the location of the SGN station and an up-to-date image of the area of the location of the SGN station. The method includes association of the images, comparing images of corresponding ERP areas, identifying retained and lost elements of the SGN station, such as features characterising an external mark, the centre and external design of the station, and storing the SGN station inspection results. An apparatus for carrying out the method of inspecting SGN stations comprises a computer, a computer control unit, a communication link between the control unit and the computer, a display, a communication link between the computer and the display, an image holder for storing archive photographic images of the area, an application glass, an illuminator, a digital camera with a view finder, a tripod, a digital camera control module and a communication link between the digital camera and the computer.

EFFECT: faster operation and quality of the process of comparing fragments of archive analogue images with digital images displayed on a display screen.
