FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is method of producing distance from unit surface (D1) between support surface (33) and first unit (30) belonging to network and containing plurality of nodes located along towed linear acoustic antennae, and in which plurality of acoustic sequences transmitted between nodes, each sequence is used to evaluate cross distance as function of duration of propagation of sequence between nodes.

EFFECT: after radiation by first unit (30) of this signal: first unit measures first duration of propagation of first reflected seismic wave as result of first reflection support surface of this signal, and first value of distance from unit surface is obtained as function of said first duration distribution; and/or second unit (31, 32) measures second length of propagation of second reflected seismic wave as result of second reflection of said signal from support surface, and second value of distance from unit surface is obtained as function of second duration distribution.
