SUBSTANCE: disclosed is method for assessing of inter nodes distance between transmitter (A) and receiver (B) units belonging to network, including plurality of nodes located along towed acoustic linear antennae (20a-20e), wherein acoustic signal is transmitted from transmitter unit to receiver unit through underwater acoustic channel.

EFFECT: method involves stage of estimating distance between nodes as function of assessing underwater acoustic channel speed of sound profile, wherein said sound speed profile depends on device immersion depth.
