FIELD: radio engineering and communications.

SUBSTANCE: transition from basic evaluation of MIMO of higher order to extended evaluation of MIMO of higher order can be implemented by means of signalling of high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) of the common control channel (HS-SCCH) a request to one or more next generation user devices (UEs). Base station (BS) can be configured to send HS-SCCH request indicating activation of scheduled pilot channels, and then to begin transmission of scheduled pilot channels after receiving ACK messages from at least one next generation UE. BS can also be configured to send HS-SCCH request indicating deactivation of scheduled pilot channels to next generation UEs, scheduled for downlink transmission, and then stop scheduled transmission pilot channels after receiving ACK messages from each next generation UE.

EFFECT: improved quality of channel transmission of higher order MIMO for next generation UEs without considerable increase in level of noise in operation of legacy UEs.
