SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for relative positioning of pipes to be joining and connection, for example, by welding. End pipe sections comprise end circular surface to define plane of joint and adjoining surface of bevelled edges. Method includes mounting a plurality of uniformly distributed and radially arranged clamping jacks (1, 2), respectively, on first pipe (100) and second pipe (200). Method includes pre-positioning first and second pipe relative to each other with arrangement of their corresponding end surfaces opposite each other in plane of joint in position of alignment. Method includes adjusting clamping jacks (1, 2) for movement of first and second pipes relative to each other in parallel to joint with due allowance for radial displacement H and H′ of their end surfaces, determined in accordance with optimum combination of end surfaces of pipes. Compression force said clamping jacks on said pipes is maintained. Each Jack is connected to its electric valve. Computing device provides individual and independent control of each of electric valve.

EFFECT: optimisation of alignment of connected surfaces of tubes provides better connection when performing first pass welding.
