METHOD OF EXTRACTING URANIUM AND PLUTONIUM Russian patent published in 2016 - IPC G21C19/46

Abstract RU 2593831 C9

FIELD: nuclear physics and engineering; processing and recycling of wastes.

SUBSTANCE: method of extracting uranium and plutonium from an aqueous solution involves two successive steps of counterflow treatment of water stream (flow supply) with recycled extractant, as a rule, 30 % solution of tributyl phosphate in an inert diluent. First step is performed in beyond limit mode. Second step is carried out in pre-limit mode (full extraction mode). Extract obtained at second step, without removal from extraction device, is merged with to recycling solvent, supplied to first extraction step, with satisfaction of conditions Co⋅(V'o+V''o)≥1.04⋅Cv⋅Vv, at that V'o≥V''o, where Co is maximum achievable concentration of sum of extracted uranium and plutonium in an organic stream (capacity of extractant), V'o and V''o are values of recycled extractant streams of first and second steps respectively; Cv is concentration of sum of extracted uranium and plutonium in water stream and Vv is water flow value.

EFFECT: increased process stability and eliminating constraints on implementation thereof.
