FIELD: engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to field of electric propulsion plasma engines for space-rocket equipment. Invention consists of method of creating jet thrust by means of "screw" electromagnetic plasma accelerator and engine design that implements it. Plasma in "screw" accelerator rotates in crossed longitudinal and radial electric fields, wherein magnetic field has spiral crimping, and electric field is created by electrodes, one of which is located on magnetic axis, and other one encloses plasma. Rotation is converted into acceleration along magnetic field by diamagnetic force and viscosity of plasma. Design of engine includes ionization chamber, "screw" magnetic accelerator and magnetic nozzle. Jet thrust of engine is transferred to magnetic system, while magnetic insulation reduces erosion. Structure can operate with completely ionized, weakly-ionized or recombining plasma. Specific impulse of engine can vary in wide range during operation.
EFFECT: invention can be used as engine of main spacecraft thrust for transfer maneuvering and interplanetary flights.
