FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to investigation of lubricating oils. Method involves continuous air passing through the tested lubricating oil at a temperature by 20 °C higher than the maximum working temperature of the tested lubricating oil, sampling of oxidized lubricating oil at equal time intervals and determining such indices of the lubricating oil degradation degree as content of residue insoluble in isooctane, as well as the lubricating oil operational properties instability factor, after which a diagram of the determined indices change dependence on the oxidation time is built, tangents are made at the initial section of the obtained curve and at the section, where a significant growth of the determined index occurred, a coordinate of the point of intersection of the two tangents onto the axis of the oxidation time is taken as the value of conditional operating life. For the determination result the minimum value of conditional operating life is accepted, obtained for all the determined indices.
EFFECT: higher reliability of assessment of lubricating oil by the degree of their effect on the operational reliability of engines is achieved.
