FIELD: lighting.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to lighting control systems. Result is achieved by that policy-based outdoor lighting network (OLN) light management system includes central control apparatus (40); lighting unit control apparatus (50); communication system (60) operably connecting central control apparatus (40) and lighting unit control apparatus (50); and repository (70) in communication with central control apparatus (40), repository (70) being operable to store an OLN policy. Central control apparatus (40) is operable to receive a policy; check policy for consistency against OLN policy; determine attributes and configuration commands for each of lighting unit control apparatus (50) in accordance with policy when policy is consistent with the OLN policy; and communicate attributes and configuration commands for each of lighting unit control apparatus (50) to a corresponding one of lighting unit control apparatus (50).
EFFECT: enabling control of configuration, working characteristics, operation, providing safety, access control and service level for outdoor lighting systems.
