FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of mandrel for use in press roll piercing mill for making seamless steel pipe/tube. Method involves blasting surface of mandrel and electric-arc spraying using wire with filler, consisting by one of versions of iron tubular shell and filler containing iron particles and particles of ZrO2 in amount of 2.5-30.0 wt%, wherein at surface of mandrel film containing iron oxide, iron and particles ZrO2 is formed, and by second version with electric-arc sputtering wire with filler consisting of iron tubular shell and filler containing iron particles and particles BN in amount from 5.0 to 20.0 wt% are used, with formation on mandrel surface of film containing iron oxide, iron and BN particles.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at production of film having improved insulation properties, and manufacturing of mandrel, capable to provide stable increased service life of mandrel during piercing rolling.
