FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing copolymers of maleic acid with isoprenol and their application. Described is a method of producing copolymers of maleic acid with isoprenol from: a) maleic acid in the amount of 30 to 80 wt%, b) isoprenol in the amount of 5 to 60 wt%, c) one or several other ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the amount of 0 to 30 wt%, where maleic acid, isoprenol and optionally necessary other ethylenically unsaturated monomer are polymerised in presence of redox-chemical radical initiator and a controller at temperature ranging from 10 to 80 °C. Also described are copolymers of maleic acid and isoprenol obtained using the said method, and is described their application as inhibitors of deposits formation in water supply systems.

EFFECT: obtaining inhibitors of deposits formation effectively preventing formation of sludge and deposits of calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate and alkaline salts of magnesium in water supply systems obtained by soft method of polymerisation, where there is no secondary reactions.
