FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to using DL-methionyl-DL-methionine and its salts as a fodder additive in fodder mixtures for animals bred and grown in aquaculture farms. Invention also relates to a method of producing DL-methionyl-DL-methionine of formula (I), where residues R1 and R2 in urea derivatives IIa, IIb, IIc, IIe and IIf have the following values: in compound IIa R1 denotes COOH, and R2 denotes NHCONH2, in compound IIb R1 denotes CONH2, and R2 denotes NHCONH2, in compound IIc R1 denotes CONH2, and R2 denotes NH2, in compound IIe R1 denotes CN, and R2 denotes OH, in compound IIf R1 denotes CN, and R2 denotes NH2, in DL-methionyl-DL-methionine (I), by transformation of urea derivative of general formula (II), when the pH value of solution containing urea derivative is set to a value ranging from 8 to 14, and the reaction is carried out at a temperature from 50 to 200°C.

EFFECT: technical result is the novel method of producing DL-methionyl-DL-methionine, which is applicable as a fodder additive in fodder mixtures for animals bred and grown in aquaculture farms.
