FIELD: construction.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a security cover device for a door viewer inserted into a door. Security device comprises a coupling member including a first side and a second side, first side adapted to couple to a door with a door viewer. Device also includes a shutter assembly configured to detachably couple to coupling member along coupling member second side, and comprising a shutter housing including a first viewing aperture oriented generally coaxially with a second viewing aperture, a shutter member disposed within shutter housing and configured to alter amount of light passing through housing, and an actuator in communication with shutter member to selectively reposition shutter member with respect to housing from a first shutter member position to a second shutter member position. Also disclosed is a security cover device for a door viewer. Security device comprises a coupling member including a first side and a second side, first side adapted to couple to a door with a door viewer. Security cover comprises a shutter assembly configured to detachably couple to coupling member along coupling member second side and comprising a shutter housing including a body having a first viewing aperture and a second viewing aperture generally coaxial with first viewing aperture, and a slot extending along periphery of housing, a shutter pivotally coupled to shutter housing, shutter including a shield operable to block light passing through shutter housing, and an actuator in communication with shield operable to reposition shield from a first shield position, in which shield is positioned within shutter housing, to a second shield position, in which shield is extends at least partially out of housing through slot. Also disclosed is a method of securing a door viewer device installed on a door. Method comprises obtaining a security cover comprising a coupling member including a first side and a second side, first side adapted to couple to a door with a door viewer, a shutter assembly configured to detachably couple to coupling member along coupling member second side, shutter assembly comprising a shutter housing including a first viewing aperture oriented generally coaxially with a second viewing aperture, a shutter member disposed within shutter housing, shutter being configured to alter amount of light passing through housing, and an actuator in communication with shutter member to selectively reposition shutter with respect to housing from a first shutter position to a second shutter position. Further, method includes coupling said coupling member to door. Method then includes coupling shutter assembly to coupling member. Method then includes engaging actuator to reposition shutter from first shutter position to second shutter position.
EFFECT: protection device.
