SUBSTANCE: invention relates to uranyl nitrate nuclear production waste converting process technology and implementation. Method of producing uranium oxide from a solution of uranyl nitrate involves generation of a nitrogen plasma stream using electric arc plasmatrons of a plasma reactor, introduction of uranyl nitrate solution in mixing zone of plasma reactor, wherein in solution of uranyl nitrate is pre-introduced a chemically compatible soluble reducing agent of uranium, decomposition of uranyl nitrate solution in nitrogen plasma stream into uranium oxide and a gas phase, cooling two-phase stream in water-cooled gas-dynamic nozzle to temperature of 150-200 °C, simultaneous supply of a tangential stream of compressed nitrogen in into upper part of housing of plasma reactor behind mixing zone, separation of two-phase stream to obtain uranium oxides and gas phase in series-installed centrifugal separator and metal-ceramic filter from double-layer anisotropic metal-ceramic with pulse ejection regeneration of filtering surface, discharge of dispersed uranium oxide and purification of gas phase.

EFFECT: invention provides effective and explosion-proof production of monodisperse high-purity uranium dioxide.
