SUBSTANCE: invention relates to physical chemistry, gas analysis, vacuum engineering and can be used for separation of atoms and hydrogen ions, as well as its isotopes from gas mixtures. Method of making a membrane for extracting atoms and ions of hydrogen from gas mixtures based on metals of 5th group of periodic table of elements, niobium, vanadium, tantalum and their alloys with each other, comprising removal of surface carbide by thermal treatment of membrane in oxygen at temperature of membrane from 1,400 °C to 1,550 °C and oxygen pressure from 10-3 Pa to 10-2 Pa.
EFFECT: high stability of operation of membrane.
