FIELD: hydrogen production technologies.
SUBSTANCE: to separate hydrogen from methane or methane-containing gas, a metal hydride is first obtained and reacted with methane at a temperature of -60°C with the formation of a complex hydride. Then the complex hydride is decomposed in the temperature range 20-350° with the release of hydrogen and the formation of a salt-like metal carbide. The resulting hydrogen is separated, after which the metal carbide is reacted with water to form a mixture of hydrocarbons, hydrogen and the corresponding metal hydroxide. The metal is reduced from the hydroxide and then returned to the process to produce the original metal hydride.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to produce hydrogen from methane for power hydrogen fuel cells without purification and reduce energy costs.
