Disclosed is a method for determining rolling or guiding gap of roll stands or guide stands in a multi-stand rolling mill, wherein a comparison scale is positioned on at least one stand, preferably at first and last stand. Prior to installation of comparison scale on side of input or output stand a camera is installed, and on other input or output side - transmitter of reference measurement apparatus, a reference sensor and/or reference scale, which enables to avoid camera setup.
