FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry, specifically to a method for synthesis of compounds of general formula given below, wherein R1 denotes 2-COOH, 4-COOH, 2-NO2, 4-NO2, 2-MeO, 4-MeO and 4-C4H9, from aromatic amines in aqueous medium. Method comprises diazotisation and azo coupling at temperature 18-20 °C. Method further includes, in distilled water as initial substrate, dissolving aromatic amine and p-toluene sulphonic acid, adding sodium nitrite and then 10 % aqueous alkaline solution of 2-naphthol, after which reaction mass is treated with hydrochloric acid to pH 4-5, precipitate is filtered and washed with distilled water.

EFFECT: method enables to obtain desired azo product with high output without using organic solvents.
