FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing butadiene by catalytic conversion of ethanol, includes cooling obtained gaseous reaction mass in exhaust-heat boiler by producing steam, further cooling and partial condensation by indirect contact consecutively with cooling water and coolant and compression of uncondensed part. Method is characterised by that before indirect contact with cooling water, it comprises preliminary cooling of gaseous reaction mass to temperature of 70-100 °C by direct contact with a stream in liquid phase and more than 90 wt% consisting of a mixture of water and ethanol, with evaporation from 0.5 up to 30 wt% of said stream.
EFFECT: present method improves cooling efficiency, simplifies processing of condensate.
