FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing butadiene by converting ethanol, which includes steps of synthesis of butadiene in presence of a heterogeneous catalyst based on compounds of aluminium, zinc, magnesium and silicon, the catalyst regeneration using air and processing the obtained reaction mass to form water condensate. Method is characterized by that the synthesis step is added with nitrogen in the weight ratio with ethanol of 0.01÷1:1, and at the stage of recovery nitrogen is additionally supplied in the weight ratio with air of 0.01÷1:1, or nitrogen and water vapour in the weight ratio with air of 0.01÷1:1÷10:1, or nitrogen, water vapour and/or evaporated water condensate formed when processing the reaction mass in the weight ratio with air of 0.01÷1:0÷10:1÷10:1.
EFFECT: using the presented method allows to create favourable conditions for synthesis of butadiene, catalyst regeneration with a lower risk of local overheating, clean water condensate formed during synthesis of butadiene from ethanol and carbon-containing compounds.
