FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to medicine. Surgically implanted device represents a single piece device made of silicone, for joining phalanxes, metacarpus-phalanx or metatarsus-phalanx bones of the hand or foot in arthroplasty surgery. Device consists of an enlarged central portion and two elongated stem portions. Enlarged central portion is formed by a thickened portion with the dorsal surface without depressions or cuts, with concavity upwards or downwards, and provided with a channel extending transversally in which a depression is centrally formed. Two elongated stem portions have a smaller transversal section and tapered ends and extend from said enlarged central portion, one opposed to the other. Depression provides the approach of the two elongated stem portions during the bending of the device. Enlarged central portion and (or) the thickened portion acts as a hinge during said approach. Device is coated completely with one or more thin layer with a thickness of less or equal to 10 microns, consisting of turbostratic pyrolytic carbon, obtained by physical vapour deposition.
EFFECT: invention provides resistance to friction on irregularities of spongy bone at introduction, that prevents the destruction of spongy bone during introduction and provides durability, which enables to avoid repeated surgical intervention.
