FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to reduction of branched ketones to saturated hydrocarbons by catalytic hydrogenation of ketone. Method is characterized by that, catalyst used is a composite, consisting of a mechanical mixture of a hydrogenation catalyst from among metals: Pt, Pd, Ru, Au, Ni, Cu on a support - aluminium oxide and/or silicon oxide and dehydration catalyst, in form of cation-exchange resin in H-form, and/or deposited on a solid support phosphoric and/or sulphuric acid, and/or zeolite catalyst with a structure selected from: MFI, MEL, BEA, MTT, TON.
EFFECT: use of disclosed method allows to increase activity, selectivity and stability of catalysts for hydrogenation of branched ketones to corresponding alkanes or mixtures thereof with alcohols.
