FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: according to method of detecting faults in a network segment (32) of electric mains (30) of power supply, using protection device (34a), current flowing in feed line (31) of network segment (32), is detected with generation of measured values of current, measured current values are compared with a threshold current value, and if current threshold is exceeded, protection device (34a) generates a fault signal, which indicates a fault in network segment (32). For decentralised input of energy in a controlled network segment, invention proposes that network segment (32) of power supply mains (30) includes at least one energy generator (36a-e), which at point of input, inputs electric energy into network segment (32), information on current is detected, which includes an indication of current flowing at present moment at point of input, information on current is transmitted to protection device (34a), and protection device (34a) uses information on current for fault identification. Invention also relates to a corresponding protection device for implementing said method, as well as corresponding protection system with such protection device.

EFFECT: higher reliability of identification of faults.
