FIELD: agriculture.

SUBSTANCE: cutting unit comprises a finger bar with the fingers and the shear knives, a knife with a drive, a guide of a box, a driving and a driven sprockets, and a protective shield. The knife is made in the form of a chain loop with segments. On the finger bar above the driving sprocket there is a plate of low-magnetic material with a hole. In the hole a sensor is mounted, which is fixed with a fastening element and connected with the control unit and the signaling device. The hole is located above the segment. On the plate, there is a drive with a brush placed over the segment in front of the sensor.

EFFECT: cutting unit structure enables to determine with high reliability the time of failure of one or more segments.
