SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the field of industrial safety when determining the relative height position (settlement) of buildings (structures), elements of process equipment, carrying out location surveys in construction, installation of technical equipment in mechanical engineering, as well as in other fields of science and technology, which require the capability to measure the exceedances in horizontal and vertical planes, in points unaccessible for direct contact. The claimed method of remote geometric leveling is the use of laser plane buider and laser rangefinder. Initially, the laser plane creates a reference visible horizontal plane, and then the height samples are taken from the plane by vertically mounted laser rangefinder at points inaccessible for direct measurements (contact).

EFFECT: expanding of the range and increase of productivity when measuring height positions in conditions where it is difficult or impossible to measure with instruments installed in the immediate vicinity of the point.
