SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used, in particular, for manufacturing items and structures for chemical industry, energy, etc. The method of processing metastable austenitic steels includes stepwise intensive plastic deformation with decreasing the temperature of each subsequent stage, whereing the stepwise intensive plastic deformation is carried out with decreasing the temperature in the range of 450-20°C with the total true deformation degree 6-8 up to obtaining the fully austenitic nanocrystalline structure.

EFFECT: invention provides increased strength characteristics and corrosion resistance of metastable austenitic steels, while maintaining a sufficient level of plasticity.
