SUBSTANCE: method of symbol selection is proposed. The method comprises the steps of detecting whether the touch screen operation contact point to select the symbol reaching the text item. If the contact point does not reach the text item the nearest text item to the contact point is being searched, the character next to the contact point in the text item, which was obtained by the search, as a symbol, selected by the contact point. The stage at which the nearest text item to the contact point is searched, comprises the steps at which the search by way of level by level inspection to see whether the text item exists on the item, which is provided with the contact point, until the text item is found, the distance is computed from the contact point to each text item, which are found, the text item with the smallest distance is determined as the closest item to the contact point which was obtained by the search.
EFFECT: improved symbol selection accuracy.
