SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to optocoupler signal transmission systems and can be used to control signal transmission through an optocoupler transmission medium. Device comprises an optocoupler and a controller coupled to optocoupler and configured to receive a transmit attempt from a first device, determine if a second device is already transmitting through optocoupler, determine if receiving transmit attempt is outside a deadband period after a power-up occurrence, and transmit from first device through optocoupler if second device is not transmitting and if deadband period has elapsed.

EFFECT: preventing simultaneous connection of two devices through an optocoupler transmission medium.
