FIELD: oil and gas industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the method for determining the water/cement boundaries in the annular space between two coaxial tubes in a hydrocarbon well. The process involves running of the well tool in the central pipe of the well, where the well tool comprises a housing and the pulse generator and signal register mounted in the tool housing; generating via the pulse generator of the excitation electromagnetic pulse and forcing thereby physical vibration in the central pipe of the well; registering via the signal register, acoustic signals reflected from the well; repetition of the generation and registration operations for various positions of the pulse generator along the well depth; transformation of the registered signals in the two-dimension form; filtering of the registered signals after transformation in order to identify a hyperbole in the two-dimensional representation as the vertex of the hyperbole is the water/cement boundary.
EFFECT: invention improves the definition of the boundaries of water / cement in the annular space between two coaxial pipes in a hydrocarbon well.
