FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: original tube blank is subjected to cold die-forging in transitions. In the first transition a conical portion with the dimensions corresponding to the dimensions of the conical part of the finished ball stud is obtained by direct extrusion. In the second transition a part of the blank is reduced for thread rolling. Then a spherical head is formed by reduction.
EFFECT: improved quality of the final products and extended life cycle of the used process tool.
