FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: for crushing and/or preliminary weakening of the material, a treatment zone is provided between at least two electrodes. The material is directed through the treatment zone. High voltage discharges are generated between the electrodes during the direction of the material through the treatment zone. High voltage discharges are triggered separately or in the form of a series of high voltage discharges depending on at least one continuously determined processing parameter. The processing parameter is the current and/or future situation relating to the material in the treatment zone. The device comprises of a treatment zone between at least two electrodes, means for directing the material through the treatment zone and means for generating high voltage discharges. The electrodes are located at a distance from each other. The discharge generating means is configured to plan triggering of single high voltage discharges or single sequences from a plurality of high voltage discharges.

EFFECT: improved energy efficiency for the process and prevention of excessive crushing of the material.
