SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used for determination of initial raw material weight unloaded by conveyor during first time interval Δt. Method includes obtaining serial digital images of initial raw material in a certain area of conveyor, wherein two successive images are separated by a second time interval δt, which has shorter duration than first time interval Δt; for each of second time intervals δt is the distance of the movement of the raw material sub-volume movement during the second time interval δt in a certain conveyor zone by digital processing of two consecutive images associated with a second time interval δt; determining at least one transverse profile of the height of the sub feed of the feedstock; determining the initial feedstock density for the starting material sub-feed; and calculating the initial raw material weight unloaded into the metallurgical furnace by the conveyor during the first time interval Δt.

EFFECT: invention allows determining maximum mass flow rate of raw material supplied to metallurgical furnace.
