FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: discrete corrosion inhibiting microgel is described, comprising a crosslinked polymer network created by emulsion polymerization of monomers selected from monofunctional or bifunctional acrylic monomers; monofunctional or bifunctional methacrylic monomers; monofunctional vinyl monomers and their combinations; and organic corrosion inhibitor compounds captured or immobilized within the polymer network, wherein the corrosion inhibitor compounds are selected from the following compounds: (a) aminobenzothiazole compounds having the formula where R3 is selected from H, CnH2n+1 and OCnH2n+1, where n is an integer; (B) benzotriazole-based compounds having the formula where R1 Is selected from H, CnH2n+1, where n is an integer, COOH and OH; where R2 is selected from H and CnH2n+1, where n is an integer; and (c) phenylmaleimide compounds having the formula wherein each R4 is independently selected from S, NH and O; and (d) mercaptobenzimidazole compounds having the formula where R5 is selected from H, CnH2n+1, where n is an integer, COOH and OH; and corrosion inhibitor compounds are released from the polymer network under the influence of corrosion-inducing conditions selected from changes in pH, moisture exposure, temperature increase and combinations thereof. Also corrosion inhibiting primer coating composition without chromate is disclosed, as well as a method of forming corrosion inhibiting microgels, and corrosion inhibiting particles in the form of powder.

EFFECT: corrosion inhibiting microgel is obtained for use in a non-chromed primer composition that meets environmental standards.
