FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: multi-layer coating is applied by vacuum plasma method. First, a lower layer of niobium nitride is applied. Then the top layer of nitride of titanium, aluminium and niobium is applied at the following ratio of components, wt %: titanium 70.0-80.0, aluminium 14.0-20.0, niobium 6.0-10.0. Application of coating layers is performed with three cathodes located horizontally in one plane, the first one of which consists of titanium and aluminium alloy, and the second one consists of niobium and is located opposite to the first one, and the third one consists of titanium and niobium and is located between them. Bottom layer is applied using the second cathode while top layer is applied using the first and the third cathodes.
EFFECT: higher cutting efficiency.
